What is happening

* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet in the surf zone. Dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory, north facing reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, north and east facing reefs. * WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A pulse of elevated northeast trade swell, enhanced by a passing tropical disturbance to the north, as well as a lighter long-period north swell, will generate hazardous surf along north facing reefs, and a high risk of rip currents along north and east facing reefs of the Marianas. The disturbance and elevated swell look to pass quickly through the area, with surf falling below hazardous conditions Saturday.

Official instructions

Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
