How does El Niño affect U.S. winter weather?
El Niño is a periodic warming of the tropical Pacific. In many past El Niño winters, the southern United States has tended to be wetter, while parts of the northern United States have tended to be milder. Those are historical patterns, not a forecast for a particular city or storm. The Climate Prediction Center publishes the official seasonal outlook.
Where is the official winter weather map?
The Climate Prediction Center publishes official U.S. temperature and precipitation outlooks. The National Weather Service publishes winter storm, ice, and blizzard warnings. This site shows those warnings when the feed is available, plus city forecasts.
What should a winter forecast include?
Read the hazard, not only the snow total. Winter messages can cover snow, ice, wind, or a combination. A daily forecast icon does not tell you whether a road is open.
