How to read the radar
What does this weather radar show?
The radar layer is U.S. composite reflectivity from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, based on National Weather Service radar. It shows where precipitation was detected. It is not a forecast and it is not a warning.
How is radar different from a weather alert?
Radar is an observation of precipitation. A weather alert is an official message about a hazard, such as a thunderstorm, flood, tornado, or tropical storm. Both can be on the map at the same time, and they use different colors.
Does the radar cover the whole world?
This radar layer covers the United States. Forecasts are available for cities worldwide, but this radar product is a U.S. composite.
